Piano enthusiasts might find this set incredible, but I prefer my music to be pleasant. Consider your tastes before buying.

Very nicely done CD set. The sound quality is better than I expected. The playing confirms suggestions that Kapell was in the same league as Horowitz. I am very happy to have this set. If fidelity is your only interest then, like any other remakes, this set is not for you. But if your interest is in music and performance thereof then you will appreciate this collection.

Critically acclaimed by critics such as Harold Schoenberg, and pianists of his own class such as Leon Fleischer, this box set provides insight into why such respect is deserved. I highly recommend this at least for the Khachaturian, Rachmaninoff No. 2 and Prokofiev Concertos. The account of the 3rd Chopin is also sublime. Although his life was cut tragically, this wonderful music lives on.

I wrote my doctoral dissertation on William Kapell (we share the same school, and my teacher was a student of his), and to still see the outpouring of admiration and love for Kapell’s art is still very moving for me.

An excellent remastering job on the performances of a top classical pianist whos death was untimely. Highly recommended for the classical music lover and a must for the classical piano enthusiast.
