The popular group of three Irish tenors performs a lively program of ballads, folk songs, and Irish standards before an appreciative audience in Belfast. Ronan Tynan, Anthony Kearns, and Finbar Wright perform together and in solo spots (and John McDermott, who has performed with the group previously, sings two songs during a solo guest appearance). Decked out in cutaway coats and surrounded by an orchestra, the singers give full voice to such songs as “The Last Rose of Summe… More >>

Anthony Kearns, Finbar Wright and Ronan Tynan have great voices. But why they have a guest appearance by John McDermott Idon’t understand. That man does not have a voice! I hope their next video is without McDermott. That was the reason I gave this video 4 stars instead of 5. Byit anyway but do like I do, fast forward when McDermott “sings”.

This second concert of the Irish Tenors does not quite measure up to the first in the song selections but it is very enjoyable nonetheless. However, I miss John McDermott . Although Finbar Wright has a fine voice and a pleasant presence, he does not add the same quality as McDermott, who has a particularly “Irish” tenor voice and a great stage presence and manner. Without McDermott the Irish Tenors seem more like a secondary version of the “other” three tenors and not so uniquely Irish.

I saw them in Boston and they put on quite an entertaining show even if you aren’t Irish. Lively and emotional and they thoroughly enjoy performing in front of an appreciative audience. For anyone who can appreciate great music, they are a treat to hear. Finbar, Anthony, and Ronan have their unique styles (if you have a good ear) and they blend well onstage and put on an easygoing and professional performance. I look forward to more live performances. Until then, this tape gives almost the full flavor of a live show.

These three top flight performers have recreated something that has been missing from the world’s concert stages since the heydays of the great John McCormack and the legendary Richard Tauber. (More so, insofar as you get three for the price of one).

Their stylish and highly polished performances were breathtaking, to say the least; and I cannot envisage anything ever topping the memorable Belfast concert. The rapport with the audience was instantaneous, and you do not need to have one drop of Irish blood in your veins to appreciate the quality of their voices; particularly the wonderful Celtic lyricism of Anthony Kearns’ voice.

    Long may they reign!
