The 1996 concert began in honor of their Russian hosts with popular highlights from Prokoviev’s Romeo and Juliet and the Cavatina from Sergei Rachmaninov’s Aleko. The second part of the concert features Beethoven’s Violin Romances, with Kolja Blacher leading the orchestra to an enthusiastic reception from the audience, and the Seventh Symphony Claudio Abbado conducts.
